& Lisa Gordillo

Mary and Lisa are the co-owners of Broad Brush Studios,

a local mural company dedicated to bringing the magic of paint to the Keweenaw. With over 20 years of experience teaching art at the high school and college levels, and painting large-scale projects across the U.S., they know how to transform a space. When they aren't covered in paint, they love spending time with their animals, exploring nature, and finding inspiration in life's colorful chaos.

The Orpheum theater/ 5th and Elm Cafe
"All That Jazz"

The Orpheum mural draws on the building’s unique history as an eclectic venue hosting
vaudeville acts, comedy gymnasts, classic movies, the Elks vocal ensemble, and
unforgettable performances such as Enoch the Manfish.

Look closely at the design to spot special touches included in the design: the original
Orpheum sign; a box office attendant painted in vintage vaudeville poster style; nods to
the building’s days as The Pic Theatre, and café owners Frank & Emily Fiala dancing to
the jazz performance.

All That Jazz was painted by Broad Brush Studio artists Mary Kozmor and Lisa Gordillo.

The artists were assisted by Callisto Cortez and 12 local teenagers.

Alumni House Mural

"The Garden"

The Alumni House mural celebrates the vibrant community of students who learn, grow, and flourish together at Michigan Tech. Like a garden that draws vitality from rich soil, a community thrives through connection, compassion, and the blending of many stories. Rooted in shared purpose and nourished by opportunity, students on our campus grow together. The flowers in the mural reflect the unique cultures and histories that shape and strengthen us.

The Garden was painted by Broad Brush Studio artists Mary Kozmor and Lisa Gordillo.

The artists were assisted by Lindsay Donajkowski, Callisto Cortez, Molly Pelkey, Molly Maloney, Indigo Mile, Caroline Furmanski, Lexi Boutilier, and a vibrant collection of Alumni House student volunteers.

Humanities Mural

"The Raven "

"The Raven" was painted by Broad Brush Studio artists Mary Kozmor and Lisa Gordillo.

Inspired by the raven as a figure of knowledge, the mural’s four arches trace the threads of connection across the branches of the humanities: language and literature, history, the arts, and philosophy.
